The CubeSmart® CubeDoor and CubeBanner were invented and brought to market by longtime insiders. Both David Vaughan and Bob Schmidt have spent a good percentage of their careers working in cubicles.

Both founders, being technical professionals, required periods of time for heavy concentration and without interruption. Telling their co-workers to go away was not an alternative …besides being rude; it didn't prevent the break in concentration.

The CubeSmart founders went in search of a solution to preventing interruptions. The solution had to send a preemptive yet polite message that we were busy, without creating the perception that we were unapproachable. Additionally, the solution had to be attractive and blend into the office landscape.

Finally, the price had to be an affordable alternative to the exorbitant prices for manufactured cubicle doors.

Mr. Vaughan and Mr. Schmidt first started research and development on the CubeDoor in 1996. Six years, and much wiser, we have brought the "optimal productivity solution" to market. What took us so long? Well, we kept getting interrupted...
